List of the Inquisitors of Mallorca

NOTA BENE:
For an history of the Inquisition in Mallorca see: http://www.ereticopedia.org/maiorca

The catalogs of the Inquisitors of the Tribunal of the Spanish Inquisition in Mallorca comprising the whole period of its activity (1488 – 1820) have been compiled by Juan Dameto in 1841 and by Baruch Braunstein in 1936, but unfortunetely, both of them are neither complete nor accurate. They include several individuals who were actually not inquisitors, but only fiscals (prosecutors) or lugartenientes of the inquisitorial office during the vacancy, and their dates are often inaccurate. Critical examination has been made by Mateu Colom Palmer, but only for the period up to around 1700. The catalog presented below essentially follows the results of Colom Palmer’s research for the period 1488 – 1700, while for the later period it begins with the catalogs of Dameto and Braunstein, but the data provided by them are critically compared with other sources. For this reason, for the period after 1700 the catalog provides only provisional and approximate data that requires further examination. Fiscals and lugartenientes have been excluded from the list.
